For our first hike of the season, Jason and I decided to do a 15 mile loop around Buffalo Mountain near Silverthorne.  We climbed up to 2 passes: Red Buffalo Pass and Eccles Pass.  The weather was amazing and we had a lovely day in the mountains!
I love these bright pink flowers - they always put a smile on my face.  When you get close, you can easily see why this flower is called "Little Pink Elephants".  I managed to catch 2 of them holding trunks... awwww ;o)
I felt like a kid in the candy store with all the wildflowers on this hike.  I think Friendship Bear enjoyed the views and sunshine too!
One of my favorites flowers is Indian Paintbrush which comes in a variety of colors (red, orange, pink, white, yellow).  We liked the fuchsia ("Rosy Paintbrush") so much, we used it for our wedding color.  You may wonder if I adjusted the color on one of the photos above but they're just 2 different shades; you can see both in the photo below.
I didn't realize until I got home and looked over my photos that a little dandelion seed had stuck itself to the side of the paintbrush I photographed (below, right side).  For some reason that little bit of fluff makes me smile ;o)
It was a pretty tough hike (which my calves certainly reminded me about over the next several days!)  Over 3,600 feet of elevation gain, but definitely worth it.  We got lucky and had the trail mostly to ourselves - just us, sweeping mountain vistas and LOTS of flowers - makes you want to jump for joy!!
A handsome man and a field of wildflowers... how did I ever get so lucky?!
I was super excited that the wind was calm enough to allow this reflection photo!
Some good ole Columbines to finish things up.  Thanks for stopping by, hope you enjoyed the photos!
